Strut
A shelf unit that functions solely on precise CNC cut angles for the beams to slot in to keep the shelf tops in place and strong and made from repurposed beams.
A structural piece that has no fixings.
Designed and made with designer Caitlin Dodsworth.

In the Making
It was about creating a stability and weight bearing qualities in the shelf with the use of no fixings.
Myself and Caitlin Dodsworth worked on this piece trying and testing the angles and hole sizes that would work.

The process
Starting of with prototypes and seeing how many layer and legs would be needed we worked out a CNC made layout for the two shelves and upcycling these 4 long bars were turned into the frames legs and spray painted orange.

Details and Joinery
This shelving unit is constructed with pieces that have tension and friction which holds due to the angle of the lmetal legs and the holes cut into the CNCed plywood.

Rubber feet on the bottom for grip and scratch resistance for the floor.
